Aston Villa’s youth setup has come up trumps once again this season having brought through the likes of Ciaran Clark, Marc Albrighton, Barry Bannan and Nathan Baker in recent years. Tony McAndrew’s side toppled Middlesbrough 3-1 yesterday in the Youth Cup quarter-finals, showing signs of continued progression from the academy at Villa Park. Captain Daniel Johnson gave Villa a first-half opener, leading by example throughout. A well taken goal from Graham Burke shortly after half-time gave Villa a two goal cushion before Charlie Wyke pulled one back for Boro. However, victory was sealed when Matthew Waters put past his own keeper to make it 3-1 and ensure Villa progressed to the semi-finals.
