Villa’s Squad Ranked in Order of Average Ratings in 2010/11

After 26 games, just over two thirds of the season, I felt it was about time for another one of my player rating updates which tend to spark controversy! The following are the Villa players, who have played at least 4 games this season, ranked in order of average rating according to my individual ratings made after every game. New signings Bent and Walker are topping the list having only played 4 and 5 times respectively. However, having netted twice each in their Villa starts, the two appear to be good signings by Houllier. Fellow newcomer Jean Makoun has also shown promise but has only appeared 3 times so doesn’t feature on the list. The likes of Fabian Delph and Nathan Baker also miss out having only played twice.

Habib Beye and Robert Pires prop up the list having failed to impress in their brief involvements this season although the Frenchman showed signs of improvement, scoring against Blackburn in his last appearance. The lowest ranked regular is captain Stiliyan Petrov, who along with the likes of Stephen’s Warnock and Ireland have been disappointing this campaign. I have awarded veteran keeper Brad Friedel with the most man of the match’s this season, one of which was in the midweek game against United where he broke the club record for Villa’s oldest ever player. However Friedel had a bit of a stinker today, picking up a 5 after being at fault for both Fulham goals. The likes Marc Albrighton, who according to my rankings has been the best regular performer this season, Nigel Reo-Coker and Ciaran Clark have all received 3 man of the match titles.
