After posting the average points per game for each Villa player stats yesterday, many have come back to me saying that these results would be significantly improved if the information was gathered since the January signings joined the club, sparking a mini revival. Said revival was far shorter than Villa fans might have hoped, not helped by the fact that manager Gerard Houllier was taken sick, leaving the club in the not so capable hands of Gary McAllister. However, I digress. I wanted to see just what effect the new recruits had had on the team so have accumulated the tables prior and since the signing of Darren Bent in particular, finding promising results. The tables reveal that in the 14 games since the record signing joined, Villa have picked up 20 points, placing them 8th in the form books, equal with Man City and above Tottenham. Interestingly the impact of the new signings has seen the club pick up just 2 less points from the 14 fixtures than in the 22 games prior to their arrival, when the club sat in 17th! If you exclude Gary McAllister’s short reign, Houllier had masterminded somewhat of a comeback, winning 5, drawing 3 and losing 3 of the 11 games he managed since bringing in his targets! Hope?
