Villa Set for Sensational Swap Deal for ex-Villan Cahill?

According to reports in the Lancashire area, Aston Villa are plotting to launch a sensational bid to resign centre back Gary Cahill after selling him to Bolton for £5m in January 2008. Owen Coyle is now thought to be demanding at least a fee of, or equivalent to, £20m for the 25-year-old who earned his first senior England cap this season. Cahill recently netted a brace in his sides fortunate 3-2 victory over Villa at the Reebok Stadium. Apparently Villa are in a fight with Tottenham for the defender, with both clubs hoping to offer a part exchange offer which may well interest the Trotters.

Villa’s make-weights are thought to include the likes of out of favour stars such as Stephen Warnock, Stiliyan Petrov and the recently shamed Richard Dunne. However, Spurs have an even larger contingent of potential giveaways including Robbie Keane, Jamie O’Hara, Alan Hutton and David Bentley. The Villa fans will undoubtedly remember Cahill for a spectacular acrobatic winner against Birmingham and the England international has continued to show an advanced technical ability as well as a no nonsense approach to defending. Gary’s two goals against Villa this year were his second and third of the current campaign having made 31 appearances in League and Cup for Wanderers. Should we resign him for Villa and just how big of a mistake was it to let him go? If all three aforementioned players were exchanged how much money, if any, would need to trade hands?
