Aston Villa are believed to be one of a number of Premier League clubs eyeing a move for Leicester City’s 26-year-old centre back Sol Bamba with a bid for a defender no surprise, following an awful season for the club which has seen the side ship their highest goals against tally since 1997.The Ivory Coast international has only been with Sven-Goran Eriksson’s side since January after moving from SPL side Hibernian this season but has impressed significantly to draw the interest of the likes of Villa, Fulham, Everton and Marseille, though TalkSport claim that we are favourites to land the defender.
Reports in French newspaper L’Sport claim Gerard Houllier has made his liking concrete with a bid in the region of £2.6m. Bamba was bought into the Championship side after the Foxes failed to reach an agreement with ex-Villa centre back Curtis Davies, who spent the first part of the season on loan at the club before switching to Birmingham to great effect (scoff)!
The big defender is a real threat in the air and has netted an impressive 5 goals in 36 games for both Leicester and Hibernian this season with 3 of those coming in just 18 matches for his new side. He scored a brace on his home league debut at the Walkers Stadium in a 4-2 victory over Milwall and has netted against Premier League opposition in Manchester City this term in Leicester’s 2-2 draw which took City to a replay on their way to winning the FA Cup.
