Aston Villa’s Ashley Young’s proposed switch to Manchester United is only likely to be finalised next week, with 3 things likely to proceed it: one at Villa, one at United and the other being the England international’s wedding on Saturday. The 25-year-old will be getting married back at home in Hertfordshire this weekend, kicking off what is likely to be the biggest week of his life. Premier League champions Manchester United are thought to be closing in on agreement with Villa that should see around a double in profit for the selling club following his £9m switch from Watford.
However, the deal is likely to be put off, certainly until after the winger’s wedding, and most likely until Villa have named their new manager, which could also happen as soon as this weekend after chairman Randy Lerner flew in from the States to hold talks with the clubs targets.
In terms of United’s priorities, the club are seemingly on the verge of completing a transfer for Blackburn youngster Phil Jones, tipped as a future England centre-back alongside Chris Smalling. The duo play together at Under-21 level and have already began to look eerily similar to the partnership of Rio Ferdinand and John Terry in their playing styles. The Reds will be focusing on finalising this move before switching their attentions to Young.
All 3 factors should be completed by the middle of next week at the latest, although if the wedding goes on that long, I’m glad my invite got lost in the post!
