Having recently reported that Villa were lining up a move for Marseille’s Nigerian international left-back Taye Taiwo to replace the outgoing Stephen Warnock, TalkSport have now claimed that the 25-year-old will choose Benfica over a number of other targets when his contract expires with the Ligue 1 club in the summer. Villa were supposedly joined in their interest for the defender by league rivals Liverpool and Serie A leaders AC Milan, however, the report suggests that Taiwo is set to announce his decision to join the Portuguese side next week. French magazine Canal+ had revealed that Taiwo was keen on a move to San Siro but his agent has since stated: “Maybe something will be decided in the coming days. The player will play in the [Nigerian] national team next Saturday against Ethiopia. Benfica is one of the possible destinations, we’ll see.”
