Holloway Turns Down Adam Transfer Request

Gerard Houllier’s best mate Ian Holloway has turned down Charlie Adam’s transfer request today, remaining adamant that any acceptable offer would have to be dramatically increased from the £4m offered by Villa and Liverpool. Holloway has continuously stated that he wants Adam to move to a ‘top 4 club’ but seems to be keen for Adam to join Kenny Dalglish at Liverpool were he to leave, a club a long way off the top 4. A move to Villa may well be an impossible prospect now with Holloway having slated Villa and in particular Gerard Houllier for making ‘insulting’ offers for their talisman. Despite a bid coming in from Liverpool equal to that of Villa, Holloway refused to launch such a barrage against Dalglish and the Reds which has angered Gerard Houllier. I used to like Holloway and he offers great entertainment value but he is an idiot and has treated Villa with disrespect after the club have done nothing but submit bids in the ‘proper’ manner. Adam has since handed in a transfer request and is thought to been to join compatriot Kenny Dalglish at Liverpool. I wouldn’t expect any more movement from Villa on the issue and certainly not at £10m+ price tag that Holloway is quoting. Houllier doesn’t seem to be a popular man with ‘football friends’ Holloway and Bruce having launched pretty harsh attacks on the Villa manager, when the bids made for Bent and Adam, undoubtedly have little to do with the Frenchman. Put a £4.1m offer in Gerard and give us a good laugh!

Houllier Ups Adam Bid After Makoun Priced Out

Gerard Houllier has reportedly returned with an improved offer of £3.5m for Blackpool midfielder after an earlier offer was rebuffed by the Seasiders. Villa are thought to be in a battle with rivals Birmingham to sign the Scotsman but Holloway will be loathed to losing his talismanic skipper. The club had bid £2.5m for the 25-year-old and Houllier seems keen to secure his signature after an interest in Lyon midfielder Jean Makoun has cooled after the two clubs valuations of the player were not equal with the French side waiting for £7m for the Cameroon international. To douse the fire further, Lyon have recently recalled Makoun to the starting line-up with the player stating that although he was aware of interest from Villa and not ruling out a move, he was just happy to be playing again.

Villa manager Gerard Houllier has reportedly had a £2.5m offer for Blackpool talisman Charlie Adam rejected. The midfielder, who arrived from Scottish giants Rangers in 2009 for £500,000, quickly proved to be a bargain for Ian Holloway’s side and was made captain of the club just months after joining. The 25-year-old proved instrumental in Blackpool’s promotion to the Premier League last season, as the club’s top goalscorer and playmaker. Since then he has attracted interest from a number of Premier League club’s and has continued to impress in the top-flight this year. He played alongside countrymen Barry Bannan at the Seasiders last year while the young Villan enjoyed a loan spell with the club. The Scotland international has played 18 times in the league this term, scoring 3 and setting up another 3 as well as netting in his only League Cup appearance this campaign. Last year he netted an impressive 16 times in the league as a mainstay in the Blackpool squad with 43 appearances. In those 43 games he also set up 9 goals for his teammates but did pick up 13 yellows in the process. He has already served a one match suspension after receiving 5 cautions this term. Adam has 6 senior international caps after struggling to break into the team behind the likes of captain Darren Fletcher. Alex McLeish is also thought to hold a firm interest in Adam after managing him at Rangers but a bid of £2m falls short of that offered by Villa and is set to be laughed off with Blackpool’s valuation of their skipper still unknown. I like this link a lot and am pleased that Houllier has spotted such a talent at home rather than having to scour the ranks abroad. I believe a bid of around £4m would be well worth an effort, what do you think the midfielder is worth and is he worth pursuing?
