Serrano Caps Goal-den Debut with New Villa Contract

After netting in his first outing for the Aston Villa reserves 2-1 defeat to Everton last week, 17-year-old Spaniard Juan Serrano penned his first professional contract with the club and youth team coach Tony McAndrew is touting big things for the midfielder. Having signed from Espanyol at the start of the season the youngster had been eased into the Villa youth set-up before scoring on his debut for the second string last week. Serrano has now sufficiently impressed the clubs coaches to earn a new deal at the club and McAndrew claims he is settling into the style of play at Villa very well.

“Juan is a talent. He has got a lovely first touch, lovely technique and he is learning how we play the game in this country.

“On Saturday against Norwich I thought he was excellent. I thought he played really well and he looked as though he had come to terms with how we want to try and play.

“I am delighted with his progress. He is a lovely lad. His attitude is fantastic and he has got some really lovely skills.

“It will take him a while to settle in. He has come from a different culture and a different style of football.

“It is 100-mile an hour stuff compared to what he has been playing in Spain.

“It is early days for Juan but we will give him plenty of time. He has just signed pro so we will use him as much as we can this year and I would hope that by next season he will be absolutely flying.”
