Reo-Coker is a Hot Property in the European Market

Villa midfielder Nigel Reo-Coker is being targeted by a number of leading European clubs on a bosman free transfer, with his contract set to expire at the end of the season. Villa have stated their desire to keep the 26-year-old but face real competition from overseas and closer to home having let his contract run out and it is unknown as to whether the former West Ham man wants to stay or chance his hand at Champions League level. His agent Tony Finnigan has claimed that interest in the club’s vice captain is ‘huge’, saying that “Milan, Dortmund, Napoli, Valencia, Fenerbahce – they are all looking at him.” Not the first time an agent, or indeed Finnigan, has hyped up his client as a wanted man but these links are pretty credible throughout the press. In other news, Nigel has told the Birmingham Mail that he would like to play in a more advanced role having scored just 3 times in 4 years for Villa. It did surprise me that he was pushed forward against Arsenal, ahead of Fabian Delph, and it worked in applying more pressure up the field but I certainly couldn’t see it working when the side are looking to score goals, rather than protect a lead. I hope he stays as I believe he has been one of our better players this term, though a number Villa fans are stuck in their ways in their dislike for the middle man, in my opinion, and would like to see him leave.
