Quoted: Bent Feels Young & Downing Must Stay

Villa striker Darren Bent has claimed that keeping Villa’s star duo of Ashley Young and Stewart Downing should be top priority for next season and credits both in helping him become an instant success at the club. Villa’s record signing has hit the ground running, netting 7 times in just 12 appearances and becoming the sides top Premier League scorer in the process in under a third of the season. The 27-year-old has praised the delivery of the duo since he joined, in particular from Downing, and has urged those with a year left on their current deals to stay at the club amidst interest from the league’s big four, five or six, whatever it is now!

“Everyone in the dressing room hopes he stays because he has had a fantastic couple of years at Aston Villa and we want it to continue.

“He’s a top, top player and he has been linked to some of the best clubs in the country and when you are playing as well as he is, it is only right.

“Stewart Downing has been fantastic since I’ve been here, supplying goals for me left, right and centre as well as scoring them. If we can keep hold of those two players it will be fantastic.

“Obviously, for selfish reasons, you want those two players to stay because they supply chances left, right and centre.

“If Aston Villa want to move forward we want to keep our best players and those two are certainly two of our best players.”
