Villa defender James Collins is reportedly catching the eye of league rivals Liverpool having returned to form following the ‘spa’ controversy last month. The 27-year-old was thought to be surplus to requirements after the disciplinary issue, along with Richard Dunne, but Gerard Houllier has since claimed that he expects both to stay on at Villa Park. The Welsh international follows Ashley Young and Stephen Warnock on players rumoured to be on Kenny Dalglish’s wish list and should command a sizeable sum as he enters his best years. Martin O’Neill signed the big centre-back from West Ham in the summer of 2009 for a fee of £5m and a report from Sportingo claims that the club would be wanting as much as £14m for his signature. To be honest that is way, way over the top and completely unfounded but I would suggest that if they were to be forced into a sale, Villa would be hoping to receive between £8-10m tops. Collins has been a mainstay in defence this year and has arguably been the clubs most consistent defender in his 32 club appearances. He has netted 3 times in 27 Premier League games adding to the 2 he netted for the club in his debut season.
