Half time at Villa Park for the reserves outing against Liverpool’s second string and it’s 2-0 Villa. MacDonald is looking to end a run of three straight defeats which have dented his sides title hopes and the first half in this clash is going exactly to plan. A strong line-up including the likes of Herd, Clark, Baker, Gardner, Salifou, Bradley and Albirghton is outplaying Liverpool’s young side and good value for their lead. The visitors began the game well with veteran keeper Andy Marshall twice saving well from the Reds’ Tom Ince. However, Villa began to keep the ball well and broke the deadlock when neat work from Gary Gardner picked out Harry Forrester on the left, whose clipped cross picked out Albrighton who volleyed home emphatically. Forrester was involved again in Villa’s second when Baker lofted a ball over the Liverpool back line to the young winger who was bundled over by Liverpool skipper Wisdon. Gary Gardner took the spot kick and hammered home, sending keeper Hansen the wrong way.
