Houllier Keen on Crouch Comeback

Gerard Houllier is apparently launching a second surprise striker bid in a week after lining up a return to Villa Park for Peter Crouch. The England forward spent 2 tough seasons at the club at the beginning of his career and struggled to make his mark on the side before signing for Southampton, after which he secured a dream move to Liverpool. Now 29, Crouch has dipped in form in the league this year having scored just 1 goal in 23 games though he has picked up 8 assists in 13 starts. His form in Europe has been far better however, having scored 6 goals in 7 including a hat-trick in the Champions League qualifying round against Young Boys. A partnership with Darren Bent could be invaluable to a team in Villa’s position although what Crouch can do that Heskey can’t is minimal in my opinion and the £10m price tag seems over the top after forking out crazy amounts on Bent. In 26 league games for Villa he scored 5 goals and has never really been prolific with the 12 goals scored at Southampton, representing his highest league tally but seemingly he would be bought for his knock downs and not his goals. He is however, one of a rare bunch to be far more prolific at international level having scored 21 goals in 41 goals, a fantastic record.
