Gerard Houllier’s best mate Ian Holloway has turned down Charlie Adam’s transfer request today, remaining adamant that any acceptable offer would have to be dramatically increased from the £4m offered by Villa and Liverpool. Holloway has continuously stated that he wants Adam to move to a ‘top 4 club’ but seems to be keen for Adam to join Kenny Dalglish at Liverpool were he to leave, a club a long way off the top 4. A move to Villa may well be an impossible prospect now with Holloway having slated Villa and in particular Gerard Houllier for making ‘insulting’ offers for their talisman. Despite a bid coming in from Liverpool equal to that of Villa, Holloway refused to launch such a barrage against Dalglish and the Reds which has angered Gerard Houllier. I used to like Holloway and he offers great entertainment value but he is an idiot and has treated Villa with disrespect after the club have done nothing but submit bids in the ‘proper’ manner. Adam has since handed in a transfer request and is thought to been to join compatriot Kenny Dalglish at Liverpool. I wouldn’t expect any more movement from Villa on the issue and certainly not at £10m+ price tag that Holloway is quoting. Houllier doesn’t seem to be a popular man with ‘football friends’ Holloway and Bruce having launched pretty harsh attacks on the Villa manager, when the bids made for Bent and Adam, undoubtedly have little to do with the Frenchman. Put a £4.1m offer in Gerard and give us a good laugh!
