Aston Villa’s 22-year-old midfielder Jonathan Hogg is willing to rejoin Portsmouth, having played 19 times for tha Championship side on loan since January, in order to ensure more first team football.Hogg’s Villa career was hampered by several serious injuries as a youth player but a return to fitness and injuries to those around him gave him the chance to impress for a short period at Villa last term, making an impressive league debut in the 2-2 draw with Champions Manchester United.
After Reo-Coker and Petrov shook off their respective knocks Hogg found his chances limited in the side having shown an ability to cope with the intense pressure of the Premier League in his 5 starts for the club. His form earned him a new long term deal at the club and attracted the interest of Portsmouth, for whom he became a mainstay in their threadbare squad.
Hogg’s representative Mick McGuire has revealed that the player is open to a return to the club next season having enjoyed his stint at Fratton Park this year, stating;
“Jonathan enjoyed it so much at Portsmouth
and I know the club were impressed with him as an all-round individual as well as a player.
“I think he probably fits their mould in terms of the sort of player who would enhance the club.
“His loan spell at Portsmouth was everything he hoped it would be. He will be considering his future this summer and would never rule out the possibility of returning.”
