It appears that a number of man of the match performances, most recently against Everton in Saturday’s 2-2 draw, have persuaded Villa manager Gerard Houllier that there is life in the old dog yet as far as soon to be 40-year-old Brad Friedel is concerned. The veteran keeper’s agent has confirmed that he and his client have entered talks over a new deal, with his current contract expiring at the end of the season. The news comes contrary to reports previously suggested that the stopper would be moving away, most likely back to his U.S. homeland, in order to seek a new deal. However, Friedel’s agent Tony McGill has insisted that he is happy at the club and that talk’s are progressing. The weekend’s star player has put in a number of eye-catching performances, alongside a couple of disappointing displays, in his impossible task of preventing goals leaking through a dismal Villa back-line this term. In 36 games in all competitions, Friedel has conceded a hefty 61 goals, picking up just 5 clean sheets in a season which has seen Villa’s defensive unit surrender leads on a consistent basis. “We are in talks over a new contract, Brad is very happy at Villa.
“If Brad was not happy, he would not be talking over a new contract.
“I have spoken with chief executive Paul Faulkner and talks are going very well indeed.”
