A stuttered start to his Villa career, hampered by a cruciate knee ligament injury last season, has not prevented 21-year-old Fabian Delph from earning new deal at the club, highlighting how highly rated he is amongst the Villa ranks. Since a big money move from Leeds in the summer of 2009 the midfielder will have been disappointed to see his chances limited thus far having only started 11 games for the club in 18 appearances, just 5 of which have been in the league. Of those five he has not completed the 90 minutes in any of them. Before this starts to sound like criticism of the player, it’s far from it. A kid with real talent in my opinion who will surprise those who have forgotten him at Villa Park and around in English football in my opinion. He has scored 1 goal for the club, coming in a 3-2 win in the FA Cup against Brighton last season. The impending extension shows good sense and intent from the club who have already tied down the likes of Clark, Albrighton and Bannan for the long-term to stave off unwanted interest. Something which O’Neill was unable to do with the likes of Milner and potentially Ashley Young. The contract will run until the summer of 2015. Good news after a terrible night. UTV!
