Aston Villa predicted XI vs Olympiacos: Emery to make two defensive changes

Aston Villa have had an excellent 2023-24 season under Unai Emery as they are on the brink of securing Champions League football for next term.

The Midlands outfit will also be looking to add a trophy this campaign as they face off with Olympiacos in the first-leg of their Europa Conference League semi-final on Thursday.

Emery is expected to make a few changes after defensive lapses saw them squandering a two-goal lead to suffer a 2-2 draw against Chelsea at the weekend

Emi Martinez picked up an injury but he was always going to miss the game due to suspension. Robin Olsen replaced the Argentine last time out and he should continue between the sticks on Thursday.

Matty Cash wasn’t at his best against Chelsea but his attacking input suggests he will start as a full-back.

Diego Carlos has often played at right-back but is more effective in a central role and so he is expected to partner Pau Torres in defence.

Lucas Digne has been playing week in week out for Villa, but he will likely start again due to Alex Moreno’s injury.

In central midfield, Douglas Luiz and John McGinn are expected to feature after injury to Youri Tielemans.

Out wide, Morgan Rogers is in line to start who has settled in very quickly after arriving at Villa Park in the winter transfer window.

On the other flanks, Leon Bailey looks set to play again despite a quiet display in the previous game.

Ollie Watkins has scored four goals in the Europa Conference League and he will start up front, with Moussa Diaby behind him as a central attacking midfielder.

Aston Villa predicted vs Olympiacos: Olsen, Cash, Carlos, Pau, Digne, Luiz, McGinn, Bailey, Rogers, Diaby, Watkins.
