We are the Champions

So the first team may have lost the plot at the business end of the season, but our second string hasn’t suffered any such problems and have won the reserve league. It is the second year running the Villa reserves have won the Barclays Premier Reserve League South and they now face Sunderland in the Play-off final.

The team is made up of promising youngsters, wishing to break into the first team. We are well aware of how great this can be for the team, just look at Gabby and the up-coming Nathan Delfouneso.

So congratulations to our boys, they won 11 of 16 games to take the title and in the end won it against local rivals West Brom. Bring on the final on May 20th.

    2. the young lads have been superb, and a few are coming along nicely, most notably, gary gardner, nathan baker, and ciaran clark…

    obviously, nathan delfouneso too… he really is a special talent and i am delighted that he is getting chances in the first team… i could wax lyrical about him all day…

    one player who has surprised me a little, is james collins… he has been scoring for fun, and despite him being limited as a player, and fair play to him… i dont see a long term future at the club for him, but he is doing all that can be asked of him…

    3. forgot to mention marc albrighton too.. he really has come on in leaps and bounds this year… seems to have found a trick or two to beat his man this year, and it is paying dividends…

    barry bannon is also doing very well at derby, and they love him there… his size isnt overly hampering him there, but it is an obvious issue, and one that derby fans i have spoken to, have mentioned in passing… apart from that, they are full of praise for him and his touch, vision and workrate… something that is obvious from his reserve performances…
