Villa’s Young Lions Crash Out in Youth Cup Semi

Aston Villa’s Under-18 side suffered a 2-0 defeat to Sheffield United’s youth set-up in their second leg tie of the semi-finals of the youth cup, failing to overturn a 0-1 deficit from the home leg last month. A final against either Manchester United or Chelsea awaits the Blades youngsters who are enjoying a far greater return then their senior counterparts who look set to be relegated down to League One. United’s captain Elliott Whitehouse bagged both goals before being sent off for a second bookable offence late in the game. All of this after he had opened the scoring on the brink of half time and doubled his tally after Villa’s keeper Barrett was sent off for conceding a second half penalty. Villa had a penalty of their own in the closing stages, won and subsequently missed by midfielder Samir Carruthers. The star man without doubt was 16-year-old Jordan Graham who continues to show the promise which has seen him linked with the league’s top clubs. The young winger has earned a call-up, alongside team-mate Callum Robinson, in Kenny Swain’s England Under-16 squad who have now turned their attention to the annual international Montaigu Tournament in France later this month.
