Transfer rumours and/or transfer seculation. You know the type, the tiniest little hint that a player may be of interest to a club and then bam! it’s all over every newspaper, blog and forum before the player or clubs involved get a chance to say “I don’t fricking think so mate!”. So let’s be honest and call it gossip. The stuff that’s usually about celebrities and keeps forty year old ladies entertained in offices all over the world. Well, us footy fans are no better. There’s nothing we love more than a made up story about how Man City are about to bid £2bn + Richard Dunne + a bag of maltesers for Ronaldo, Rooney and Alex Ferguson!

  • The grapevine has it that we’ve given up on a swoop for Reading’s hitman, Kevin Doyle. This was surely obvious a few weeks back when he signed a contract extension for another two and a half years with the Berkshire club. Doyle would have found himself rooted to the bench for an indefinite time at Villa, waiting for an injury or drop in form to get his chance, whereas at Reading he is popping them in and getting a hero’s welcome from the fans, so who can blame him. Likelihood it’ll happen: You’ve got more chance of seeing the Queen’s tits! (Read more)
  • Still on strikers, the Michael Owen rumour will keep on rearing it’s head until he signs some piece of paper or another. I, for one, would welcome Owen with open arms to Villa Park. I think he has exactly what we need upfront; the ability to finish. Yeah, I know he’s out of practice and hasn’t been too hot for Newcastle, but I think MON would play him to his strength; which is goal hanging. He’d say “Now Michael, I don’t want you trying to do any fancy shit, none of this trying to get involved with the game, we have Gareth, Stan, Ginge, James and Ash to do all that, what I need from you is to be there in the box when the ball comes in and to tap it into the net. OK, team talk over, get out there and give me goals”. Him actually coming to us I see as unlikely though, we won’t want to pay his wages for someone who isn’t necessarily going to jump straight into the team. Likelihood it’ll happen: Worth putting a pound on but don’t bank on it. (Read more)
  • German international Lukas Podolski has told Bayern Munich that he wants out and the Premer League is going to be a very likely new home for a player of his calibre, with many teams ‘allegedly’ interested in his services. Villa are one of the many, along with Chelsea, Everton, Man City and Tottenham. For those not familiar with Podolski, he is a German striker, born in Poland, who has more success at international level than at club level. He is very prolific for Germany, scoring 31 goals in 60 games, but struggles to get regular football at Bayern. Likelihood it’ll happen: It’s a ‘wait and see’ (Read more)
