Here is a breakdown of the Villa’s best and worst performers in terms of ratings and statistics vs Man City with no real stand-out performers!

Player Ratings

Shay Given – 6.5 – could do very little with 4 well taken goals and made a couple of decent, if not comfortable stops

Alan Hutton – 6.5 – unsurprisingly more involved in a tougher defensive test, distribution still needs work

Richard Dunne – 6.5 – worked hard to keep the score down but in vain in the most part

Ciaran Clark – 6 – tough task to come in against City lacking in match practice and was really tested

Stephen Warnock – 6.5 – a costly slip effectively killed the game off but worked hard going forward and back and made up for mistake with a goal

Stiliyan Petrov – 6.5 – broke up play well but overrun and offered little in terms of creativity

Fabian Delph – 6 – understandably out of his depth a little as he continues to learn the Premier League game

Emile Heskey – 5.5 – completely ineffectual and tactic didn’t pay off, subbed through ‘injury’

Stephen Ireland – 6 – no chance of impressing in attack so rarely got into the game but working harder

Gabby Agbonlahor – 6.5 – willing running but should have either scored or squared early on to take the lead

Darren Bent – 5.5 – completely anonymous and isolated in the most part, needs to work harder to get himself into games

Subs

Charles N’Zogbia – 6.5 – not a bad cameo but couldn’t get involved in attack despite tackling well

Barry Bannan – 6 – silly booking on a frustrating afternoon for Villa

Marc Albrighton – no time
