Villa Linked to Another Le Havre Starlet in Ryan Mendes

Villa scouts in Le Havre believed to be paying attention to January target Guieda Fofana have apparently been enticed by the French youth captain’s 21-year-old team-mate Ryan Mendes, according to TalkSport. Born in Cape Verde, Mendes is yet to choose his international allegiance and could yet opt for Portugal, emulating compatriot Nani. I haven’t heard of the guy to be perfectly honest but the article suggests he is a key player in Le Havre’s promotion push to return to France’s Ligue 1. So I’ve had a little rummage around the stats files on the youngster, who is reportedly attracting admiring glances from league rivals West Ham as well as Portuguese league leaders Porto.

He is predominantly an attacking right winger but can also play as a centre forward, though his goals tally would suggest that he is preferred by his club in a wide role but I don’t know! In 23 league games this term Mendes has scored 3 times, picking up 2 assists in the process. He made his first appearance as a sub at the tail end of the 2008/09 season in which Le Havre were relegated but has become more of a regular since, turning out 14 times in the clubs first year back in Ligue 2. A £1.5m fee doesn’t seem much but is more than that which the side accepted for Fofana who is highly regarded in France, which may indicate that he is pretty decent but again I don’t know! Another young winger being linked will no doubt add fuel to the Young leaving fire which burns brighter and brighter with every man of the match display for England!
