Villa Line Up Ambitious £10m Swoop to Steal Parker

The Sun have claimed that Villa are lining up an ambitious £10m swoop for West Ham talisman Scott Parker, with Liverpool and Tottenham both thought to be keen in the England international. After the Hammers were relegated this season it seems all but a certainty that the 30-year-old will leave the Londoners having been in top form this term, winning the Football Writers’ Player of the Year award. Villa may well be in the market for another centre midfielder having signed Jean Makoun in January with Nigel Reo-Coker believed to be on his way out of the club on a free transfer.

If this deal came to fruition it would be a massive step forward for the club in my opinion. Parker is a player who week-in, week-out plays with his heart on his sleeve and can perform in a defensive and advanced role. Despite his advancing years I think a £10m punt is a good shout, though I would probably draw the line their.

Parker was undoubtedly the stand out player at Upton Park last season and has been since he joined the club in all honesty. In 30 league starts last season the midfielder netted 5 times and set up 2, with a pass success rate of 83%. He was by far the sides top tackler, averaging 3.8 a game, and also picked up a team high in interceptions (2.6 per game) as well as chipping in with an average of 3 accurate long balls per game and 1.25 key passes.
