They’re just getting lazy now

lazyIt seems that the papers and websites not only can’t find out any new rumours for us to savour, but they also can’t be arsed to make any up. Re-hashings of the Kenwyne Jones link, the revival of the Kevin Doyle rumour, more rumblings about Charles N’Zogbia and Nicky Shorey’s swap deal and thats about it for us Villans today.

The football world is all wrapped up in sticking a knife in Phil Scolari’s back, who has taken the pressure off Arsene Wenger for a week by getting convincingly beaten by Man Utd. Chelsea are now just one point ahead of us, it’s been a long time since you could say that in January and not be scooted off the the funny farm.

They’ve got him

Back in October of last year, a Villa fan let down himself, the supporters and the club when he threw a coin at the linesman’s head during the home draw against Portsmouth. Randy Lerner and Martin O’Neill were dismayed by the incident after all their hard work to make the club into a decent, honest place, even giving the shirt sponsorship deal to Acorns charity.

The good news is that the man has now been caught and charged with battery. He will appear in court tomorrow.

Special offer

Considering going to the Chelsea game in February? Fancy making a real day of it? This offer from Humraz.com may well be of interest then. The game is on Saturday 21st February at 12.45 GMT and comes slap bang in the middle of our two ties with CSKA Moscow, our biggest European dates yet, so it will be a very exciting time around the club.

Here’s their press release with all the details for those who are interested:

Fans compete to buy VIP Aston Villa tickets for fraction of their value

Press Release: London, January 5 2009 – As the economic downturn hits football fans hard, Aston Villa will provide two supporters with the chance of a lifetime through Humraz.com.

Fans will compete in Humraz’s online reverse auction for two VIP tickets to their match versus Chelsea on 21/22 February. Entry to the auction costs £10 and bidding will start at 1 pence. Bidders will apply skill to place the last lowest unique bid in a 30-minute auction on Sunday 8 February.

The winner will pay a fraction of the value of the corporate hospitality tickets, worth over £1300, to attend The Villains’ clash with table-toppers Chelsea in what is already an eagerly anticipated fixture.

In addition to taking-in the match from a prime position in the stadium, the ‘Directors’ package includes pre-match champagne and canapés, four course gourmet meal, fine wines and liqueurs, complimentary bar and hostess service, halftime refreshments, post-match buffet, match day programme and team sheet, valet car parking and even a personalised seat plaque.

Humraz founder Asmat Monaghan believes Aston Villa’s foresight is a win-win for fans and clubs alike, especially given that economic downturn has hit sales of corporate hospitality packages.

“We have been receiving a lot of enquiries from companies who are looking to sell their Premier League corporate boxes,” says Monaghan. “Using Humraz is an innovative way to maintain the same level of revenue but make such packages accessible to a much wider market.”

“Humraz gives people who struggle to afford even the cheapest seats at Villa Park the opportunity to watch Ashley Young and Gabby Ablonglahor take on John Terry, Frank Lampard et al. It’s a wonderful opportunity for a fan and an innovative move for the football club.”
