Soon they will have to change the name to England Villa!

What can I say? Villa kick a$s!

Fabio Capello has named his squad this weekend for the upcoming international game on Wednesday. England will be facing European champions, Spain, in a friendly (or as some prefer to call them; pointless game) in Sevilla.

Capello has spent a number of weekends sat in our stands watching some exciting football from our whippersnappers and he obviously likes what he sees because his 23 man squad contains no less than 6 Villans.

James Milner has received his first ever senior call up, alongside Gareth Barry, Emile Heskey, Gabriel Agbonlahor, Ashley Young and Luke Young.

Milner is delighted to finally progress from the U21s to the full squad:

“To represent your country at any level is fantastic but to be called up to the full squad is an absolute honour and a real proud moment in my career.

“I am thrilled and I can’t wait to link up with the other lads and work hard and try to do well in training.

“Villa have six players in the national squad, which is a huge achievement too. Credit has to go to the manager Martin O’Neill for that.

“It’ll be great to be part of the set-up and to have so many lads from Villa there too will make it even better.”

It certainly is credit to Martin O’Neill, after a wave of encouragement from the Premier League fans earlier in the year when the 5+6 rule was proposed. Villa now find themselves with more players in the England squad than any other team, for the second game running.

In fact, Villa have twice as many as any other team, with Man City, Portsmouth, West Ham and Chelsea all with 3 players in the squad. Making up the numbers are 2 from Man U and 1 from Everton, AC Milan and Middlesbrough.

Tune in on ITV from 9pm to see our boys do their stuff on the national stage.

Up the Villa. Believe.
