It just keeps getting better and better for Villa

Villa fans - happy as a pig in sh.... errr.... errr..... excrement!

Twice Liverpool got our hopes up that we would finish the weekend level on points with them but eventually took a little of the shine off Saturday night by winning in the final minutes and Man Utd gave glimmers of hope by taking an hour to score, but the most important game to Villa fans (other than our own, of course!) was the North London derby and that turned out pretty nice.

Arsenal went into the weekend 5 points south of us but we will still be looking over our shoulders all the way as the Gunners are reknowned for going the distance, and we are still considered the new boys, punching above our weight.

The battle of North London ended goalless, with Eboue seeing red, so Villa are now whopping 7 points clear of the Gunners. This means we now have at least a 3 game cushion between us and what will most likely be our main rivals for a top four finish (although Chelsea are starting to look very rusty now too).

Things just seem to keep getting better and better for us Villans. Enjoy it while it lasts and with a bit of luck it will last a loooooooong time.

Up the Villa. Believe.

  2. I disagree. The Man Utd game was the most important game – although of infinitely less importance than our own. Arsenal are an irrelevance. This statement isn’t borne out of arrogance on my part. It is simply a fact. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if they were to finish as low as sixth, as Everton have every chance to overhaul them. I don’t see Arsenal catching either Liverpool or Chelsea, let alone us. After last weekend’s result at Anfield, I think Chelsea are out of the title race, in part because they’ll withdraw. Their focus will be the Champion’s League. As for Liverpool, it is they and not us who have had a lucky season thus far, but I sense the wheels are about to start coming off. I would be a little disappointed if we weren’t to finish above them. And this leaves us as Man Ure’s only rivals for the title. Of course, if it were a level playing field, I think that we’d be big favourites (especially given how far behind Man Ure would be; try reeling in teams from a distance when the establishment don’t pander to your every whim, Ferguson), but it’s not. As such, it will take a mighty effort for us to win the title this season. The funny things is, it’s an effort we are capable of making.

In short, forget about Arsenal, and drop all this talk of a challenge to finish in the top 4. It’s the title we should be discussing. We’re fans, not players or the manager! We have the luxury of voicing what we’re thinking, and I for one am going to take full advantage!

  6. Confident… but to simply believe we are so superior to Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal that we don’t have to consider them in this title race is misguided arrogance. We’re the ones that have set the cat amongst the pigeons and broke up the the normal top teams. But do not think that suddenly means we are the better side. There is a reason those 4 are know as the Big Four. A season can fall apart very quickly.
However, I still believe we’ll finish strongly. Not sure how strong as we still have a small squad and still being in the Premier League, UEFA Cup and FA cup (as well as our lads being involved in internationals) will take its toll. We’ll see.
