Heskey, Heskey, Heskey. It’s all about Emile today… again!

Yesterday I brought you the news that Emile Heskey would be signing for Villa and it very nearly came true, but unfortunately he is a very slow reader and he’s still going through the contract so today’s sensational headline is:

HESKEY TO SIGN TODAY!

Heard that one before? Yep, it’s yesterday’s news, quite literally, repeating itself. It seems that the Heskey deal is going on behind closed doors, they are just busy rattling out the details. At the age of 31, the rumoured 5-year deal seems a bit much but Heskey is in some of the finest form of his career and will hopefully add some experience to our exciting young team.

The rumour was touted first here on Aston Villa Blog and you have me and me alone to thank for the sensational exclusive. Love me for my exceptional ear-to-the-ground secret-sniffing abilities! Only kidding, you all have a man called Jed O’Donnell to thank for tipping me off. Thank you Jed, good work, it seems I have made a good friend in you.

Isn’t Heskey a donkey?

Football fans are very well known for their short-term memories, loving a player/manager when he’s up and kicking him in the face the second he’s down, so how has the name Heskey changed to conjuring up a nice image from an “Eee-awww”?

The weird thing about Heskey is that he hasn’t actually changed, it’s just people’s opinions of him thats changed. He has certainly suffered from Owen-Hargreaves-itis, an infliction whereby you get booed one day and then are loved another day.

Heskey’s main flaw is that for a striker, he doesn’t score many goals. The threat he does pose though is to bring the most out of the players alongside him, so the hope is that we can now revert to a 4-4-2 and our Emile will be feeding the Agster all day long with through balls for him to get onto with his lightning pace.

Is he ours now?

You all know that MON likes to keep things secret until it’s confirmed, so until it’s on the official Villa site it’s not definite, but it’s looking like it’ll be announced later this morning.

Edit: All done and dusted, the big man has put his autograph on the dotted line and held up the shirt and smiled. That’s the legal stuff done, now to get him on the pitch against Pompey and see how he works with our lions.
