Friedel to find out today if his record-breaking run has come to an end

Brad Friedel is currently the record holder for the most consecutive appearances in the Premier League and increases it every game, but now his record looks set to finish at 182 games after his red card for toppling Fernando Torres on Sunday.

It was a harsh red card; yeah, Friedel brought down the last man, but he turned his shoulder to try and get outta the way. I guess I’ve seen reds given for less but with the guy on such a great record its a real shame for him.

Villa have lodged an appeal with the FA and will find out today if the card will be rescinded or not. I doubt it will though, he doesn’t have the connections that John Terry has!

  2. It was impossible for Friedel to get out of Torres’ way, the video replays showed that he actually tried to make his “body smaller” to avoid the collision.

It was a ridiculous sending-off, as the game was already beyond Villa’s reach,

Common sense should prevail and the red-card be rescinded, unfortunately common sense is something that is rare at the FA.

Now if he played for England…..the story might be different.

  4. All the lads gutted for Friedel,

Was never a sending off. Still one of the best keepers in the prem and a true proffessional. Hope the card is overturned.

Lets hope he is in the sticks for when you visit the filth next month. All of Liverpool will be behind the Villa boys!

    Is right,
    Christian

  6. After his display on sunday, it may be a blessing if it isn’t turned over. He was so slow getting to Torres, which cost us a penalty and a man. Not that it mattered as we were well gone by that point.

I’ve not seen enough of Guzan to make any sort of judgement, is he good enough?

Just hoping that Martin and Freddie can come back and save us. Any updates on Laursen? I can’t believe that we will rush him back for United at the risk of losing him past that. I would probably think that O neil will deem it an unnecessary risk in a game that we have less chance of winning, and get him back for the must win games froim everton to the end of the season.

  8. So right when you say that Friedel doesn’t have the connections that John Terry has. I’m a Liverpool fan but still I think that he doesn’t deserve a red card. The poor guy was on his knees and couldn’t avaoid the foul. FA should rescind the red card.

  12. overturned…

tbh, i wouldnt have minded seeing guzan come in…

friedel has been well out of form lately, and from what i have seen of guzan, limited viewing granted, he does look a very good all round keeper…
