Assuming that the reports suggesting Brad Friedel is set to rejoin Liverpool this summer are true, or even if they’re not, who would you like to see the veteran American when he leaves the club?

VOTE NOW: Rate Villa’s Players this Season to Establish Best XI

With the season now at an end and Villa finishing in a somewhat surprising 9th position, I wanted to give the fans the chance to rate all of the Villa players from this season in order to understand who you consider to be Villa’s best XI this season. A team I will put together once the results are counted at the end of the week. Ratings are made out of 5, 1 being awful, 2 being poor, 3 being average, 4 being good and 5 being excellent. Players who made less than 5 starts in the league were omitted, notably Delph, Pires etc. but there is still 21 players to rate so get to it! Cheers guys. UTV! Vote Now!

Villa Fans Rate Friedel as Villa’s Best Defensive Force

And the award goes to…..well I already said it in the title. Villa Blog fans have voted veteran stopper Brad Friedel as the team’s best defensive force this season in a close fought contest which saw the 39-year-old, 40 tomorrow, receive 38.5% of the vote, pipping the four other candidates to the post. It was revealed yesterday that the keeper was delaying talks with the club until the end of the season with interest mounting from former club Liverpool, as well as Tottenham and West Brom in the Premier League. Villa have repeatedly put off negotiations due to the player’s advancing years and in doing so may risk losing their number 1 for next season. The club were understandably cautious of offering new terms to a number of players due to the club’s previously insecure league status. However, constant hesitation over offering a new deal based on Friedel’s age isn’t thought to have sat too well with the American, though he is still widely expected to stay on at Villa Park next season. Despite this, Friedel has been one of the club’s top performers again this season and has shown no decline in fitness or sharpness for that matter, starting all of Villa’s 37 league games this term. The former Blackburn man’s closest contender in the vote was youngster Ciaran Clark, who 28.75% voted for ahead of the likes of James Collins, Luke Young and Richard Dunne

Moyes Runaway Favourite in Wanted Next Villa Manager Poll

Everton manager David Moyes is the overwhelming favourite amongst Villa fans to lead the club next season according to the latest poll results from the Aston Villa Blog’s – Who Should be in Charge at Villa Next Season poll, still open for votes. The Scotsman was in competition with another 12 possible options in the poll, including the ever present Other (how he hasn’t got a job yet I don’t know, but is leading the way in comprehensive fashion. As the poll reaches the 1000 votes mark, 926 as I’m writing this, Moyes has picked up a massive 404 votes, almost 44%. Interestingly only 45 of the voters thus far want Gerard Houllier to remain in charge thus far. However, despite this amounting to less than 5% of the vote, it still places the Frenchman as fourth favourite. Round-up of the rest of the poll results to now

Reports in recent days have seen the likes of Atletico Madrid’s Quique Flores and Frank Rijkaard both linked with the Villa managers job, were it to be vacated by Gerard Houllier this summer. The pair join a long list of names to have been supposedly lined up as replacements by the club so I thought I’d ask who you think should be a the helm next term.

VOTE NOW: What was Aston Villa’s Goal of the Season?

Filed under: Hot topic debates, POLL

Last in the series of polls for the Villa Blog awards barring the main Player of the Year gong, to be run once the results have been revealed compiling best defender, midfielder, attacker and young player of the year awards. I want to know out of the five nominees below, which was Aston Villa’s goal of the season? Didn’t want to give more than five options so some decent goals missed out, namely the great team move for Albrighton’s goal to put us 2-0 up over United, but these are the strikes I’ve settled for. Wanted to have links to all with videos to refresh the memory but can’t find the majority so pictures will have to suffice! Sorry. Regardless of that discrepancy, as ever, want as many votes as possible so have your say!

VOTE NOW: Who’s been Villa’s Biggest Flop this Season?

New poll today. Bit of a change of pace somewhat as I want to know who the Villa fans have been tearing there hair out of this season. Have you gone bald over Stephen Ireland, grown weary of Warnock or are you done with Dunne? Awful, awful play on words I’m sorry! Anyway, I’ve singled out a bunch who for some reason or another haven’t cut it this season, begging the question – Who has been Villa’s Biggest Flop of the Season?

If you haven’t voted on the Young Player of the Season poll posted on Tuesday, please do so via the link as for some reason this has got considerably less votes than an of the others and I’ll say it again, I want the results to be as conclusive as possible for the end of season Villa Blog awards.

VOTE NOW: Who’s been Villa’s Young Player of the Season?

Villa’s season has been a great deal brighter in a pretty dull campaign due to the emergence, both forced and unforced, of some of the club’s blossoming young talent. The likes of Marc Albrighton, Ciaran Clark and Barry Bannan have all played perhaps surprisingly extensive roles this season, due to injuries to first team stars but mainly because, on performances, they’ve deserved to. This beg’s the question – Who has been Villa’s Young Player of the Season? If you haven’t done so already, please also vote on the previous polls regarding Villa’s best defensivemidfield and attacking force of the season as well as signing of the season. There are numerous candidates who I have excluded as they have not featured quite enough to be deemed worthy of a nomination in my eyes, though the efforts of the likes of Hogg, Lichaj, Baker, Herd and Delfouneso should not be overlooked. Kyle Walker has also been omitted despite a fantastic impact as he has not appeared quite as much, though he is inevitably a nominee for signing of the season? Appreciate all your votes and comments so get involved! UTV

VOTE NOW: Who has been Villa’s Signing of the Season?

After two of Villa’s January recruits combined to win Villa a point against Stoke at the weekend it seems fitting to ask the next question in my series of polls in the run up to the much anticipated VillaBlog awards – Who has been Villa’s Signing of the Season? If you haven’t done so already, please vote on the previous polls regarding Villa’s best defensive, midfield and attacking force of the season. The likes of Robert Pires, Stephen Ireland and Michael Bradley have been excluded from the nominees for pretty obvious reasons, and although Bent has made an immediate impact, scoring 7 goals, fellow signings Walker and Makoun have also impressed since joining so can the challenge the striker in this category? Appreciate all your votes and comments so get involved! UTV

VOTE NOW: Who’s been Villa’s best midfielder this season?

The third installment of the awards style polling system I am running for members of Aston Villa Blog to vote on their top and flop players for the season asks – Who has been Villa’s best midfielder this season? Please do vote for your favourite from each category, including last week’s best attacking force poll and best defensive force poll, as I wan’t a substantial result in order to get the best idea of who you, the fans, have rated and hated this term. The likes of Ashley Young, Stewart Downing and Marc Albrighton were all involved in the attacking player poll, hence their absence.
