FT- Villa take the opportunity, not wasting it like they did back at the start of November, and go third in the Prem. We now sit just 3 points behind Chelsea and 4 points off top. The top two play tomorrow, so that may not last, but its a great testament to MON and the Villa to be where we are. Man Utd are off gallavanting and have 2 games in hand on us, so they too can take the polish off our fun but not many teams have got into the top four for any period for the last decade, so lets enjoy it Villans. Be proud. Be very proud. And have a few beers tonight!
FT- THE WHISTLE! We’ve won it 1-0. Maybe it was a lucky goal, but we were the team that looked most like scoring. West Ham attacked a lot more than us and had possession much more but other than Craig Bellamy they didn’t look capable of troubling us. Villa defending strongly, though often looked second best in the air, and attacking with a greater killer instinct than the Hammers. It has to be said though, if Bellamy had someone up with him like Dean Ashton, we could easily have lost that game. Bellamy was excellent (and I can’t stand the guy!) but one man can’t do it all. Zola is doing a great job with what he has, but he MUST buy a striker in Jan to cover if Ashton gets injured again. Carlton Cole needs to bite the bullet and accept that he isn’t Premier league quality, he could be a good player in the Championship.
Hamburg SV 3-1 Aston Villa ***Live blog*** FT
Game: Hamburg vs Aston Villa
Competition: UEFA Cup
Date: Thu 17 Dec 08
KO: 19:45 GMT
Venue: HSH Nordbank Arena, Hamburg

FT- The whistle goes and the misery is over. Villa are embarrassed here by Hamburg in a very dismal night for the claret and blues. What positives can we take from this? Well… very, very few. The B-team is DEFINITELY not good enough, infact the A-team players that played tonight are not really either. Cuellar made far too many mistakes, Luke Young wasn’t great, Shorey was nothing more than average, Knight was what Knight has been since he joined us (sorry Zat) and Guzan was half decent but against the odds. The midfield was not even close to dominant enough and the strikers were second to most and fluffed what they weren’t. Disappointing, NRC was about the only player who played well. Ooooh, I thought of a positive; we qualified. But that didn;t really happen tonight, so does it count?
Everton 2-3 Villa ***Live blog*** FT
Competition: Premier League

Venue:Goodison Park, Liverpool (haha)

FT- Man that was hard work to watch, the last ten minutes being all Everton, but we defended very well, Laursen and Cuellar being excellent. Then with a last ditch throw of the dice, we put Young through and he didn’t buckle under the pressure once again. MON’s claim that Ashley Young is worth £30m doesn’t look so far fetched right now. The team battled hard and played well but up front we still look very lost without Carew. If we are going to play the 4-5-1, we need to play it to it’s strengths and not put so many crosses in, because Agbon is being marked by 2 or 3 players at all times, making it almost impossible for him to have any impact in the games.
Villa 1-2 MŠK Žilina ***Live blog*** FT
Game: Aston Villa vs MŠK Žilina
Competition: UEFA Cup – Group Stage
Date: Thu 4 Dec 08
KO: 19:45 GMT
Venue: Villa Park, Aston

FT- An embarrassing loss at home in what should’ve been the easiest game in the group. We seal our passage through because Hamburg won at Prague but it’s not really celebrations time as we have a lot to think about after the last two games. We are really struggling to score goals now, we miss Carew and a 17 year old seems to be our only other threat. O’Neill has a LOT to think about and the players who got their chance to prove themselves today have let theirselves down. The strength we have in depth suddenly looks very shallow.
Villa 0-0 Fulham ***live blog*** FT

FT – The draw keeps us top four, at least until tomorrow, and Stoke have very kindly equalised so Hull remain 2 points below us. Now we are all Chelsea fans for a day. Come on you filthy Chelski’s!!
91 – MON is frustrated, he’ll be much more so when that whistle goes… and there it is. Very, very frustrating as Villa waste an abundance of chances and draw 0-0.
90 – Fulham threaten to steal it, 3 minutes added but Fulham have suddenly learnt how to keep hold of the ball.
89 – Villa corner to long. Then a cross straight to Schwarzer, there’s a theme here today.
Poor old Baggies have thrown away a lead, Wigan go 2-1 up.
