Villa vs Wolves: Extensive Match Preview / Predictions
For those who were against the appointment of Alex McLeish this summer, including myself, it has to be said that he has made a decent start by picking up results that fans would say were the minimum expected thus far. This Saturday’s local derby with Wolves will be a step up and it will be intriguing to see whether the Scot changes his system from the league up to now. Read more

First Preview of 2011/12! Fulham vs Villa: Pre-Match Predictions
So that time of year is nearly upon us again! Or is it? Uncertainty over the opening weekend of Premier League fixtures due to the nonsensical rioting which started in London and has swept the country has thus far overshadowed the upcoming 2011/12 campaign, but the Villa game at Fulham, as it stands, looks to be going ahead! Villa Have Clean Bill of Health Ahead of Liverpool Clash: Preview
Aston Villa host Liverpool on the final day of the season this Sunday, hoping to build on a fantastic all-round performance that saw them pick up all 3 points away to Arsenal last weekend. Extended Match Preview & Predictions
Extensive Arsenal Match Preview/Predictions
Aston Villa travel to Arsenal in the fourth game that assistant manager Gary McAllister will be taking control of, having failed to win under the Scot in their previous three attempts. Despite having lost 3-1 to Stoke last time out, Arsene Wenger’s men are unbeaten in their last 11 games at the Emirates, although they have netted just 2 goals in their last 4 games at home. Villa welcome new signing Jean Makoun back to the squad after the midfielder recovered from a leg injury this week but will be without defender Ciaran Clark once again. The hosts welcome back a key player in Thomas Vermaelen who has been out of action for the entire season having suffered an achilles injury over nine months ago. The Belgian will replace Laurent Koscielny who picked up a thigh injury in the loss at the Britannia Stadium. Gabby Agbonlahor could return for the visitors after Emile Heskey’s bizarre behaviour against Wigan last time out, though McAllister could opt to play a 5-man midfield with the likes of the returning Makoun and Marc Albrighton both hoping for starts. Villa vs Wigan Preview: Makoun Out, Dunne and Heskey Return
Aston Villa assistant/caretaker manager Gary McAllister has been boosted by a return to fitness for Richard Dunne, who hobbled out of last week’s West Brom defeat, and Emile Heskey who missed the game with a knee injury having started the previous two. The home side for Saturday’s clash will however, be without midfielder Jean Makoun who is still suffering from a dead leg, although the Cameroon international had been dropped from the side since a return to form for club captain Stiliyan Petrov. McAllister did little to impress Villa fans with some pretty nonsensical substitutions last time out, leading to a defeat to Hidgson’s Albion, and in turn, every other Midlands rival in the league and cup this season. Had Villa got a result the Scot would have been likely to shuffle the pack but with survival not mathematically secured, the fringe and young stars at the club may have to sit out once again. The hosts will be buoyed by the fact that Mohamed Diame and star man Charles N’Zogbia are both doubtful and will face late fitness tests. Extended Match Preview and Predictions
Aston Villa vs West Brom Preview: Mac to Experiment?
It has been suggested that with Villa all but safe, caretaker manager Gary McAllister could experiment with a little squad rotation, however the words ‘all but’ are significant and I don’t see too many changes being made. Manager Gerard Houllier was released from hospital late last night but as confirmed last week, will take a back seat for the rest of the season as he recovers from his heart problems. Villa have recalled Barry Bannan from his somewhat disappointing, in terms of opportunities, loan spell with Leeds and slots straight back in to the squad making the short trip to the Hawthorns. McAllister has hinted that Michael Bradley could yet earn a permanent deal which would suggest he could be involved between now and the end of the season but a long awaited return to form of Stiliyan Petrov and consistent displays from Nigel Reo-Coker are keeping out fellow signing Jean Makoun. The likes of Ciaran Clark and Marc Albrighton who impressed in the first half of the season will be hoping for a recall along with Gabby Agbonlahor who has been kept out by Emile Heskey in the last two games. Villa vs West Ham Preview/Predictions: Stick or Twist?
Filed under: Aston Villa, Match Previews, Pre-Match Predictions
Having overcome Newcastle last weekend in an albeit unspectacular manner, Villa manager Gerard Houllier is likely to name an unchanged side to that which won 1-0 last time out. Much improved performances from the likes of Stiliyan Petrov and Gabby Agbonlahor, who has recovered from a muscle strain to travel to London, should keep them in the side. Abject displays from new signings Walker and Makoun may mean that their places are less certain with a strong line-up of subs hoping for a return to action in a fully fit squad for the Frenchman. Villa vs Newcastle Preview/Predictions: Clean Bill of Health
Aston Villa host Newcastle on Sunday in a 4pm kick off tie which see both sides seeking revenge. This fixture two years ago on the closing day of the 2008/09 season saw Newcastle confined to relegation to the Championship, a fact which no Tonn fans have forgotten. For Villa, an early season humiliation at St James Park saw a Chris Hughton managed side romp to a 6-0 home victory thanks to an Andy Carroll hat-trick and a Kevin Nolan brace. The good news for Villa is that they will face neither come the weekend, backed by the advantage of having a clean bill of health throughout the squad and the return of Ciaran Clark from suspension.
