OR...Barry played well first half and indeed did okay second half. Wright-Phillips while he is not a left winger did reasonably well, though it smacks of Capello rating Milner as a better prospect on the left having given SWP the chance to impress where Milner already had coming on 1-0 down in a game that mattered on saturday. I've said it before and I'll say it again Gabby is lazy. When he doesn't have the ball he stands still. I love the guy and think he can be a real weapon when he's improved his finishing in the prem but he has to put more effort in consistently.

His cross for the goal was a joke and turned out to be lucky and his shot on goal, while it was a decent shot, it was after some hesitation when he received the ball. He could have exploded forward and had a pop but instead he stood still, waited, moved forward slowly and somehow got the ball on target when the defender should have done better.

That said Foster made one exquisite save but was generally average. Johnson is great going forward but needs to improve communication with whoever's playing inside him as Rio was left covering him too often. Rio was average though no clangers. Terry was decent. Bridge an average performance though could have offered more options down the flank.

Lampard was quiet but didn't really put a foot wrong. Lennon did well when on the ball though needs to be a little more disciplined to his position if he is to userp Walcott from that role. Crouch was pretty average but scored two easy tap ins. Could have done better though the service to him was generally useless.

Carlton Cole did okay and would be good to see him and Gabby play 90 mins together but can't see that happening. Cole and Rooney could be a good partnership.

Overall VERY static performance first half, Beckham livened things up with some classic sweeping passes over 50 yards and Milner did great coming on.

Hope that wasn't too downbeat - I actually quite enjoyed the game and glad Gabby had a chance to shine.
