Shay Given – 8 (MoM) – A string of crucial stops in the second half earned Villa a point

Luke Young – 6.5 – Solid enough at the back but offered nothing going forward

James Collins – 7 – Strong and dependable

Richard Dunne – 7 – A couple of vital headed clearances from set-pieces showed improvement from last year

Stephen Warnock – 7.5 – Unquestionable work rate as ever and largely untroubled

Stiliyan Petrov – 6.5 – Steady as per, uninspiring as per, good shot in first half

Fabian Delph – 7.5 – Lovely touches in first half, good passing and a couple of tackles to boot

Charles N’Zogbia – 6 – Nervy at times and wasteful in possession, uninvolved

Emile Heskey – 6.5 – The best of Villa’s attackers, good effort and aerial presence as ever

Gabby Agbonlahor – 6 – Did very little and is ineffective out wide, booked and mouthy

Darren Bent – 6 – Struggled to get in to the game, slightly better in second half but isolated

Marc Albrighton – 7 – Good tracking back and a decent, solitary effort at goal in the second half

Ciaran Clark – No time

  2. Performance was unspectacular. Positives were the goalkeeping, Delph, and defense with bad passing. Negatives were Nzogbia, creating shots, set pieces. Heskey played well but slows the flow. Albrighton to start next game instead. Most of the games ended in draws and fourth place is wide open. Excitement ahead….
