Ex-Wolves player may be coming to Villa

The Mirror has reported here that Joleon Lescott is on the top of MON’s list to replace Martin Laursen. Our captain has suffered another setback in his ongoing injury saga and at 31 it has begun being suggested that he may never return. Laursen will be heartbroken and there are thousands of us in the Midlands who’ll feel the same way. Replacing him will be no easy task and you can expect links with as many central defenders as there will be for Barry replacements this summer.

Joleon Lescott is a great rumour and one I’d like to see come true. I know he used to play for the Wolves, but apparently he was a Villa fan as a youth. What I do know for sure is that he is a very talented defender and could help massively to plug the gaps we have had at the back of late. I would be right behind O’Neill if he made a bid for the Everton lad.

The Mirror claims that MON will have £10m to replace Laursen, but it also claims that O’Neill is interested in Lescott ‘due to his Brummie roots’, so I’m not putting any concrete trust in their rumours. O’Neill would never in a million years buy a player based on having grown up in the Midlands, if he does begin that policy though, I’ll have to pop in to Bodymoor and show him some of my skills!

    2. This report contradicts itself, by suggesting that we have £10m for a central defender, and then linking Lescott. I would imagine that Everton would want significantly more than that for Lescott. More likely is Micah Richards, but I can’t see how a player, albeit a youngster, who isn’t good enough for Man City’s defence, is going to fill a fraction of Laursen’s boots. Personally, I would like to see us sign an experienced centre back. If we could find one who’s contract was running down, we should be able to sign someone with comparable quality to Laursen at a reasonable price. Unfortunately, that would involve looking abroad…

    3. Lescott would be an ideal replacement, not sure we would get him though. From what ive heard he is a big Villa fan, not too sure he once played for Blues though.

    8. personally, i would like to see brede hangelaand (sp?) or david wheater…

    curtis davies, who i rate very highly, needs a partner similar to the above… a battering ram type player who can go and win balls, and then allow davies to mop up behind…. could form a very good partnership in the vidic / ferdinand mould…

    10. We should go for someone line Metzelder, he’s rotting away at Real Madrid but is an experience German centre back who could do well in the prem. He’s got a nice big beard aswell like someone we used to know…

    11. Hope Martin Laursen comes back from this he is difficult to replace. However if Liverpool are still keen on Gareth (Although they have gone quiet on this havn’t they? ) Why not take a significant chunk of cash plus Sammy Hyppia. He would have just the experience needed to fill central defensive position. Lescott would also be a great buy as he gets all over the pitch and wades in with goals..

    13. Lescott is not good enough! Dont watch his stats, he scores a couple goals so that makes him a good DEFENDER???? I dont think so… We need someone with class-Metzelder at Madrid would do fine!
    If we’re gonna by from Everton, lets by Arteta to replace BARRY!!!!!!!!

    14. Ha ha what a dumbass!! Of course it was Wolves. It was 6am when I wrote this and I musta still been foggy. I guess I just thought ‘crappy local team that can’t survive it up here in the top flight’. It’s confusing cuz they all seem to fit that bill! ;-)

    Fixed it now. Cheers for waking me up lads. I’m surprised more of you didn’t notice the error.

    B6: Lescott ID a good defender, but your other 2 suggestions would be nice too :)

    16. Lescott was a fan of Villa but not anymore after the way his brother was treated who was in the Villa youth setup AFAIK.

    This rumour is a load of bull. He loves it at Everton, why would he make what in all intensive purposes a lateral move.
