After failing in an attempt to bring his former right hand man Phil Thompson to the club Houllier is chasing another reunion from his Liverpool days. It was confirmed last Friday that when Houllier takes charge he will not be assisted by Kevin MacDonald, who prefers to return to his reserve team manager role. The Frenchman has therefore set finding an assistant to him at Villa Park as a priority. Stoke City 2 – 1 Aston Villa

Well isn’t that just football. A decent performance and one that was almost backed up by a great result turns into a crushing blow in ten minutes. Villa ended up rueing missed chances whilst ahead and paid the price. All in all you can’t really blame the players, the manager or anything but the referee for a decision that cost Villa a well earned point at the Britannia Stadium. Match Report
